John French Posted 8 July , 2019 Share Posted 8 July , 2019 I am updating a biography of Captain Pilgrim, who was awarded the Military Cross for leading his Company at the Battle of Cambrai on 20th November 1917. I am trying to find a trench map of this action or 9th Royal Fusilier war diaries via Ancestry without success - please could someone provide the links. Also which is correct: 9th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) or 9th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London) Regiment. I have seen both used. Thanks John

Langdon Posted 8 July , 2019 Share Posted 8 July , 2019 Here's a trench map dated 20th November 1917 which ties in with the diary - Gonnelieu and overleaf various map references for 57c R and assorted squares... Mike
John French Posted 8 July , 2019 Author Share Posted 8 July , 2019 Mike, thanks for trench map - ideal for my purposes. EDWARD1, war diaries are for 9th Royal Fusiliers, but for the days of the attack (Nov 18th to 23rd, image 414/415) the pages seem to refer to an unnamed Machine Gun Company, before returning to the 9th on image 416. Please do you have any idea where the Brigade diaries covering the Fusiliers attack might be? John
