petet Posted 4 July , 2019 Share Posted 4 July , 2019 I was creating a page for my website today regarding Operation Lancaster (Goodwill Tour) which involved No 35 Squadron touring the USA in 1946. It was interesting to read that prior to the tour, the Chief of Air Staff, Lord Tedder visited the squadron and, whilst having coffee in the Squadron Commander’s office, he examined the trophies and photographs that were on display and advised those present that No 35 Squadron was the first squadron on which he had served. A quick look through my records shows that he was indeed attached to the squadron for Higher Instruction in Aviation whilst it was stationed at Thetford in 1916. Ron Clifton Posted 5 July , 2019 Share Posted 5 July , 2019 As an aside, from 1950 to 1967 he was the Chancellor of Cambridge University. Somewhere in my photo collection I have a photo of the annual honorary degree ceremony in 1967, when I was an undergraduate, and the university maces were draped in black in his memory.
