This is my first time using this site, only just found it.  Has anyone got any information about Reutel near Polygon Wood during the 1st Battle of Ypres?   My husband's great uncle was killed there on 2nd or 3rd November, 1914 and his name is on the Menin Gate.  He was L/Sgt 5381 Herbert Wyer.  2nd or maybe 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards.  Trying to piece together something of his history.

Lindylou - welcome to the Forum and good luck with your searches.

I might suggest that you repost this thread with L/Sgt Wyer's name as the subject. That may well attract more attention.

He was in the 3rd Battalion as per CWGC records:

Lance Serjeant WYER, HERBERT

Service Number 5381

Died 02/11/1914

Aged 31

3rd Bn.
Coldstream Guards

Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wyer, of Carbrooke, Watton, Norfolk; husband of Annie Louisa Wyer, of 217, Wandsworth Bridge Rd., Fulham, London.

He was single, aged 26, a Lance Sergeant and in barracks at Whitechapel on the day of the 1911 Census.

The battalion war diary here at the National Archives is downloadable for a small fee.

You may be interested in this previous Forum thread which mentions Wyer - see post #4
