Can anyone read interpret these / this

My SMLE 1917 says

2.O.B.L.I.

182

I am hoping it may have an association with the Royal Berkshire Regiment since my Great Uncle fought and died for them at the first battle of Ypres?

Is that a possibility?

Many thanks

Julian,

Your Rifle was marked to the 2nd Battalion, Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, weapon or rack no. 182.

My understanding is that unit marking was discontinued for the duration in 1915.

A 1917 rifle would not have been so-marked until post-war.

Regards,

JMB
