Remembered Today:

WW1 RFA Welsh soldier

I am researching my grandfather Timothy Kenefick. He appears in medal records as James Kenefick ...his middle name. His service number is W4321. I would like to identify which brigade he was in.

Family think perhaps he was in the South Wales Borderers. He operated the big guns ...howitzers.

Thank you.

Welcome to the Forum Theresa,

W/4321 indicates enlisting around May 5, 1915. The brigades of the Welsh Army Corps were 119th to 122nd Brigade RFA. The Howitzer Brigade being 122nd Brigade RFA.

However, a qualifying date of December 25, 1915 could apply to 120th Brigade RFA or 38th Divisional Ammunition Column.

Theresa, the Royal Field Artillery was a quite separate organisation to the South Wales Borderers. There is no link between the two. It's not impossible that Timothy served with the SWB at some point but not while he was overseas, judging by his entries in the medal rolls.
