Margosh Posted 2 June , 2019 Share Posted 2 June , 2019 Last month I was in Ponta Delgada, Azores and came across this 14-18 Memorial to the Portuguese Navy, outside the old fort (I think this is the correct forum to post the photo).

I missed that although before posting I searched on Azores and on Ponta Delgada and no photo came up! I did find a thread that mentioned it but no pic. I wasn’t expecting to see a GW memorial there so it was a surprise. My only GW naval research is in home shores relating to my grandad, his brother and a cousin, I had never given the Azores a thought. egbert Posted 5 June , 2019 Share Posted 5 June , 2019 (edited) Well, just to give an impression how it was then: this image was painted by famous marine painter Willy Stöwer after the actions of German UBoote in neighboring island archipelago Madeira - Funchal , 4.Dec 1916 Edited 7 June , 2019 by egbert
Margosh Posted 6 June , 2019 Author Share Posted 6 June , 2019 (edited) That is a great picture of Funchal Egbert, thank you. I had to look carefully, it could very well be Ponta Delgada, very similar. Margaret Edited 6 June , 2019 by Margosh
