According to Major John Ewing's book on the Royal Scots the battalion was located near Locon. On the 2nd was seeking to strengthen its position by advancing their line to a hedge near Pont Tourant. The attack was successful with the exception of a German machine gun post located in an orchard that caused trouble. On the 4th of May "A" company attacked the position but the Germans responded with a "violent barrage, causing considerable losses" throughout the battalion along the line. Although the machine gun post wasn't dealt with a German infantry attack was repelled.
