Mike or a leg! and before anyone suggests it, I doubt it had anything to do with chained German machine gunners, but, how about a gizmo for dislodging Turkish female snipers from trees? Looking at it from another direction, other than a flare gun, for what else would an RIR officer - if he is such - need a specialist bit of kit which necessitated him to carry it like a sidearm?
