Dever Mayfly Posted 21 May , 2019 Share Posted 21 May , 2019 I have the good captain attached to General Kappel's corps in Siberia in March 1919, but does anyone have the details of his prior service in WWI, or after he returned home from Russia? Langdon Posted 21 May , 2019 Share Posted 21 May , 2019 (edited) There's a Henry Barrow Rose - 2nd Lieutenant and then Captain in the 1st Battalion Wilts - could he be your man? 1914/15 Star - disembarked 14.08.14.. On his MIC it gives his address as The Barracks, Devizes, 28.12.1920 Mike Edited 21 May , 2019 by Langdon
Dever Mayfly Posted 21 May , 2019 Author Share Posted 21 May , 2019 Thanks Mike, Sadly, I have no initials to go on. He has two entries in the official Siberian diary on 30 March and 31 October, but very little else. If it is him, he did well to survive if he was in France at the beginning of the war. Dever Mayfly Posted 21 May , 2019 Author Share Posted 21 May , 2019 I see there is a Captain Rose MC in a Wiltshire Regiment photo of 1924.
clk Posted 21 May , 2019 Share Posted 21 May , 2019 Hi, It might be worth looking at the Army Lists (for example at the NLS here) and hopefully see what options there are. In the December 1919 list, the man that Mike found is shown as: Images sourced from the National Library of Scotland If you can establish a shortlist of contenders, hopefully it would be possible to establish their given names, and make it easier to locate relevant records.
