Remembered Today:

A reverse form of Imperial German mounting. Why?

Dear All,

I attach two EKII groups for knowledgeable and eagle-eyed Great War Forum aficionados to comment upon, please!.

As one can see, the lesser group of three was mounted in the conventional Imperial German style, with the EKII ribbon overlapping the second medal-ribbon, and so on...

The rather more important-looking group (but apparently not an Officer's medalsG017175thumb.jpg.0c8778f87eba808028a47a80d00e5ed6.jpg1322639339_EKIIgroupDNWMay2017obv.jpg.b3cc40d4a8c910dfb1167dd7bc1ef96c.jpg), was mounted "reverse", so to speak.

What was the reason for that, one wonders?

Kindest regards,

Kim.

It depended on who mounted the group and how he did it, there's no reason behind it.

Kim,

There is also a "real" reversed order in which the IC2 would be on the right hand side. That mounting is used on evening clothes (frack - tails). Look up frackspange for examples.

Dear Jan,

That's right. I once had an example.

Attached is yet another one: taken at a pre-1939 wedding.

The modest EKII never ceases to fascinate: awarded widely, but nonetheless coveted - latterly by collectors!

Kindest regards,
