Jervis Posted 16 May , 2019 Share Posted 16 May , 2019 I bought this today in a market. The guy I bought if from did not know what it was. No idea if it is genuine or even where on the uniform it belongs. It’s is about 1.5 inches in height. If anyone has any comments, much appreciated. Thanks
Dragoon Posted 16 May , 2019 Share Posted 16 May , 2019 (edited) Hello Try this forum, they are extremely good at spotting good from bad. These badges of the Irish Regiments disbanded in 1922 are heavily faked, fingers crossed yours is a good one. Hope this helps Chris https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/forums/ PS, it's a cap badge Edited 16 May , 2019 by Dragoon

FROGSMILE Posted 16 May , 2019 Share Posted 16 May , 2019 (edited) It does look fairly bona fides to me, the slightly tapered slider is a good sign. (I post there as Toby Purcell). It is a standard bi-metal undress headdress cap badge for ‘other ranks’. Edited 16 May , 2019 by FROGSMILE
Dragoon Posted 17 May , 2019 Share Posted 17 May , 2019 hello I've put it on the badge forum. I too think it looks ok FROGSMILE, let's see what the rest of the chaps have to say. Cheers Chris

FROGSMILE Posted 17 May , 2019 Share Posted 17 May , 2019 (edited) It’s always difficult to be 100% sure when so much effort is made by those who restrike such badges to artificially age their product. By way of comparison I enclose a badge with undeniable provenance from the National Army Museum and a collection of badges belonging to the Leinster Regiment Association. Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 17 May , 2019 Share Posted 17 May , 2019 It would be nice to know what the features are that make it so obviously a fake ??
Jerry B Posted 17 May , 2019 Share Posted 17 May , 2019 Most obvious to my eyes, is the slider, the lack of braze holes and the rounded lettering in Leinster.
max7474 Posted 21 May , 2019 Share Posted 21 May , 2019 A modern fake with out a doubt. The lack of brasing holes, the shape and style of the slider and the poor definition are all pointers. Also the artificial aging and discoloration are a warning sign.
Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 23 May , 2019 Share Posted 23 May , 2019 That's interesting. Is there a big market/big money for such faked items?
