rolt968 Posted 14 May , 2019 Share Posted 14 May , 2019 I am researching a man who was killed serving with 1 Scots Guards in January 1915. How do Left Flank and Right Flank Companies fit in with "conventional" lettering or numbering? Logically they should be 4 and 1 Companies respectively, but I suspect it was not that simple? tullybrone Posted 14 May , 2019 Share Posted 14 May , 2019 (edited) Hi, I think you’ll find the answer to your query in the attached WW2 Scots Guards orbat from WW2talk. Guards being “ruled” by tradition it was likely the same in WW1 so Right Flank = Number 1 or A Company. rolt968 Posted 14 May , 2019 Author Share Posted 14 May , 2019 Thank you. I am surprised that I hadn't run across this before. My man was a regular and he and/or his family appear to have been well versed in the traditional company names. He was originally posted missing and his mother posted requests for information in a "Missing Soldiers" column including the information that he was serving in the left flank company.
