Does anyone know if it’s possible to find out which companies these brothers were in? They didn’t enlist together but I’d like to know how much they might have been together in Mesopotamia.

Private Albert Gilbert STUBBINGTON
8098
2nd Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment

Born 1890 in Petersfield.
Enlisted between July 1906 and Jan 1907.
Serving in Ceylon/India in 1911.

Private Frank STUBBINGTON
8958
2nd Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment

Enlisted between April 1910 and Feb 1911.
1911 census he is at Alma Barracks, Farnborough with the battalion.

Albert and Frank Stubbington were serving together in Mesopotamia in 1916. They were among the besieged forces at Kut-al-Amara from December 1915. After several battles aimed at breaking the siege, it finally ended on April 29th 1916 with surrender to the Ottoman forces.
Around 13 000 Allied soldiers survived to become prisoners of war The prisoners were forced to march northwards, some as far as Constantinople, ridden with disease and through searing heat. Many died on the march which ended in June 1916. Two-thirds of the 2600 British soldiers died before the Armistice brought freedom. These included the Stubbington brothers.

There are war diaries for the 2nd Battalion here at the National Archives, each period downloadable for £3.50. There's no guarentee however that there are company lists contained therein, or, even rarer, other ranks referred to singly and by company.

Hopefully an expert here on this theatre of war may be able to help...
