HELP AND GUIDANCE - 35th Naga Labour Corps

Dauntless

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon,

I have just joined the site tracing my relatives, it appears my G/G Father Patrick Smith was CSM Royal Irish Regiment DCM 1916 (No 1631) and later A/Captain DCM, was C/O of 35th Naga indian labour company, 15th April 1918, 55 group 1st Army and wondered if anyone had any info on him?

Kind regards

Brian

Hello Brian

And welcome to the Forum.

The Long Long Trail link above has much useful info on how to research a soldier.

I can see his DCM was gazetted on 27-7-1916.

It might be worth checking the London Gazette to see if he was initially commissioned in the same regiment as the service papers for a 2nd Lieutenant Patrick Smith Royal Irish Regiment survive at the National Archives https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1115354 (Please do not pay the Archives for a copy if you haven't already got a copy use an independent researcher).

If we can track down the Battalion he was in then the relevant war diary can then be found.

Hopefully someone may be able to trace his DCM citation for you.

There is another thread on the 35th Naga Labour Corps here

I have edited your thread title to hopefully attract more attention.

Good luck with your research

David
