russtobin Posted 8 May , 2019 Share Posted 8 May , 2019 Could someone please point me in the direction of the 15th DLI war diaries? Have tried the "Beating ancestry's poor indexing" trick but it didn't work. Thanks in advance.
Mark1959 Posted 8 May , 2019 Share Posted 8 May , 2019 If you do not mind spending £3.50 https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7353173 With the TNA my method is go to http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/british-army-war-diaries-1914-1922/ Scroll down to the input box by the search button. Put the regiment name in only. Scroll through the results to find the correct battalion.

Basically when you are looking for any battalion diary that is a available on Ancestry use a source light the long trail to find out which Division and Brigade it belonged to. Any diary page has drop down menu's at the top and use these to locate the unit that you are interested in. Artillery units, RE etc can be more difficult but what I tend to do is go to the National Archives War Diary search page and from the information it that provides search the relevant division using the WO number that is provided.
