topgun1918 Posted 7 May , 2019 Share Posted 7 May , 2019 A8557 was an Avro 504A, fitted with dual controls. It served with No 64 Training Squadron at Sedgeford until 19 August 1917 when it stalled on a turn after engine failure at 300 feet, spun and went into a vertical nose-dive; Lieut E C Weegar was injured. I can't make out the serial number of the Bristol Fighter, but a few did serve with Training Squadrons in the UK during 1917. Graeme
Errol Martyn Posted 7 May , 2019 Share Posted 7 May , 2019 Just a minor note: the 'egg beater' is actually a Beatty-Wright. George W. Beatty was an American pilot who came to England prior to the war. He brought with him a Wright Biplane but by 1914 had set up his own flying school at Hendon, where he and his staff also constructed a number of Beatty-Wright biplanes.
