Ian C Posted 29 January , 2005 Share Posted 29 January , 2005 I have recently come across a Death Penny for a George Montgomery, who died in August 1919. The CWGC states that he was with this unit and he is remembered on a memorial in Istanbul, does anyone have any information on this unit at the time of his death. DaveDocDavies Posted 30 January , 2005 Share Posted 30 January , 2005 273rd Railway Construction Coy is one of three such listed in Salonika at the Armistice. My source has no further info. Perhaps their diary might be at the RE Museum in Chatham? Doc D
Ian C Posted 30 January , 2005 Author Share Posted 30 January , 2005 Thanks Doc, A source named on the parent, (Kevin Horn), site tells me that they were in the Black Sea area in 1919 and he has also been able to give me a ref for their diary at the NA, if that doesn't work out I'll try Chatham. ChrisN Posted 6 February , 2005 Share Posted 6 February , 2005 Good evening this thread on the 273rd Railway Construction Company has raised a question. Were there 272 other Railway Construction Companies? Obviously not, so how does this numbering system work? Does it also apply to other companies such as tunnelling companies?
