timsanders Posted 1 May , 2019 Posted 1 May , 2019 I'm researching an ancestor born in Belper, England who emigrated to America in 1914 and served in the U.S. Forces 1917-1919. I have his service statement and enlistment papers but know very little about the 156th FA and the actions they were involved in. An article I found in The Belper News (1919) stated 'Though his services were largely requisitioned as cook, he nevertheless took part in the actions at Chateau Thierry and Bolleau'. Could anyone provide me with any info on this unit and/or the actions mentioned above? William Ernest Sanders Cook/Private 146th Field Artillery (Btry C + Btry F) Army Serial No.138705 Thanks in advance. Tim
Ron Clifton Posted 1 May , 2019 Posted 1 May , 2019 Hello Tim 146 US Artillery Regiment was part of 41 US Division. The two actions mentioned, Belleau (not Bolleau) Wood and Chateau Thierry took place in June and July 1918. 41 Division appears to have been attached to the American Services of Supply (equivalent of Lines of Communication) from mid-April 1918 onwards, but it is possible that its artillery was used to support other divisions in the two battles mentioned.
