pete130356 Posted 30 April , 2019 Share Posted 30 April , 2019 Hi all, I could do with some pointers as to finding out information on the trio of meddles that i have. They are named to Pte. T. Peddle, CH.8791, RMLI. Unusually the War meddle and the Victory meddle have the prefix PO in front the service numbers; PO 8791. I have looked for information on Ancestry and the National Archives but found nothing at all. Any help or advice will be much appreciated.
horatio2 Posted 30 April , 2019 Share Posted 30 April , 2019 (edited) Medals are inscribed "PO" for men of Portsmouth Division RMLI. This chap is Portsmouth Division (PO/8791) but his star has been incorrectly marked as Chatham Division RMLI, hence "CH". The man who was CH/8791 was Alfred William BATTEN. His RMLI record is here - https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7748044 He served ten years and was then discharged 'Free' to the RFR. In April1917 he was lent to the Royal Naval Air Service. His RNAS record is here - https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7863813 He served at RNAS Felixstowe and transferred to RAF (still lent) in April 1918 until September 1918. There are further records here (but not online) - https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14591876 Edited 30 April , 2019 by horatio2
pete130356 Posted 30 April , 2019 Author Share Posted 30 April , 2019 Thanks for your reply Horatio2. That's really interesting, I thought maybe he had been injured in some way with Chatham Division and after recovering sent to Portsmouth Division. I'm still new to trying to research individual servicemen and although I tried to find information in the national archives I was obviously entering the information wrong. I shall persevere, I'm sure to get it eventually. Once again thanks for your help.
