brianmorris547 Posted 28 April , 2019 Share Posted 28 April , 2019 Dave The WD of 147 Infantry Brigade (WO 95 2796/1-4) has Operational Orders for the assault of 03/09/1916 including a table showing where ammunition was stored (p593/611). The Brigade Magazines were at Thiepval and Ross Castle and Forward Magazines were in nos 3, 5 and 6 Tunnels. It shows the coordinates for No 3 Tunnel as R 25 a 1 9. There are also Preliminary Instructions (p597/611) which show the 1/4 Bn HQ at R 25 a 1 7. There is a map (p609/611) which put these locations at the North East edge of Thiepval Wood. The WDs of The Commander RE 49 Div and the 49 Div RE Signals Company have more information about communications. The Signallers were at Bn HQ. Howard Posted 1 May , 2019 Share Posted 1 May , 2019 On this link are the only aerial photos I have that cover R25, sadly they are not in date. Even if they were in date, do not expect to see any visual evidence of tunnels, they took great care to hide that. All of these are on the WFA Mapping The Front DVDs along with numerous others that may be relevant. The Ancre Valley.
