PaulC78 Posted 26 April , 2019 Share Posted 26 April , 2019 This is a new memorial at Lathom in Lancashire commemorating the Lathom Park Remount Depot that was in use from 1914 to 1919. I actually took these pictures mid-March after it was unveiled but never got round to posting them.
PaulC78 Posted 26 April , 2019 Author Share Posted 26 April , 2019 A close up of the inscription, since the gold lettering is difficult to read unless you're right up close to it...
Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 26 April , 2019 Share Posted 26 April , 2019 Thanks for posting. As you say, dreadful shame that the mismatch between the colour of the lettering and the texture of the stone renders the memorial so hard to read. MikeyH Posted 26 April , 2019 Share Posted 26 April , 2019 Some years ago I picked up in Southport tourist info. a leaflet re. Lathom, this showed the route that the horses would have taken heading for Liverpool and their overseas postings. Mike.
Guest Posted 28 April , 2020 Share Posted 28 April , 2020 My Great Grandfather George Lawrence served here during WW1, an accomplished horseman who had previously served in the Royal Field Artillery in the Boer War. He is captured on the below picture (4 from the left as you look at the picture) taken in 1915, looking at the camera sporting a striking moustache. He also won the attached medal for Artillery Driving.
