Cliff Allen Posted 25 April , 2019 Share Posted 25 April , 2019 I’ve recently acquired what I believe to be a 1903 pattern bayonet , from the little knowledge I have I’m not sure if it is genuine , any thoughts please
Dave66 Posted 25 April , 2019 Share Posted 25 April , 2019 Hello Cliff and welcome. looks fine to me, manufactured at Enfield in Feb 1904, and inspected on 1909. Nice to see quite a fair amount of original finish and the inspection stamps on the wooden handles. Dave.
MikeyH Posted 25 April , 2019 Share Posted 25 April , 2019 Cliff, Looks fine to me, Enfield made, dated February 1904. A nice example, looks like someone has had a go at the scabbard with silver paint. Mike.
trajan Posted 25 April , 2019 Share Posted 25 April , 2019 Yes, a fine one. The scratches on the blade are from the retaining clips in the scabbard - some of my P.1888's and P.1903's are like this. Turn the scabbard over and look on the left side of the seam with the bottom pointing down for any markings there. Also check the right side as some scabbards are marked there also! You might need to use a raking light for this.

P.1903's are not that common and this looks a good one. Did you check the scabbard?
