Hi Everyone,

During the War did the soldiers use range cards and if this was the case are there any examples of these?

I thank you in anticipation

Here is an extract from SS 197 Tactical employment of Lewis Guns, January 1918.

Range Cards.—The preparation of range cards, both for attack and defence, must be practised by every member of the section (see accompanying diagrams).  A clear brief, and accurate description must be given of the point from which the range has been taken.  No more writing should be put on the card than is absolutely necessary, and everything must be written in block capitals.

Indelible pencil should be avoided because it runs if rain touches it.

When a defence card has been made there may be a tendency to tie the Lewis gun to the centre of the circle, and so restrict its mobility.  This should be guarded against; allowances can easily be made for any short move.

There is a post of mine from 2009 that shows a wooden board used in the same way I guess.

Mike,

All seems to work for me. You are aware of the link in post#8?

If it still doesn't work for you I suggest you do a forum search for ranging/target board and scroll down to the 5th result.
