little bob Posted 23 April , 2019 Share Posted 23 April , 2019 Have found several men of the Newfoundland Royal Naval Reserve lost when H M S Laurentic was sunk. How do I go about finding service records, slightly different than looking for Canadian records, any help would be welcome. Bob
horatio2 Posted 23 April , 2019 Share Posted 23 April , 2019 Seems the Mormon Library at Salk Lake City may have something - https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/oclc/866435203?availability=Family History Library The RNR records at Kew have just one Newfoundland record - 1.TN

ernest james Posted 23 April , 2019 Share Posted 23 April , 2019 The 2009 Book 'The Best Small -Boat seamen in the Navy' by David and Ean Parsons covers the Newfoundland RNR 1900-22 For the loss of Laurentic it lists brief service histories of one Newfoundland RNR survivor and twenty one casualties. Two of those casualties had been transferred to the RNR trawler section and their records appear to be online at TNA Their details are given as 1672 X smn Maxwell Abbott of Bonavista. RNR No 10521 DA 1559 X smn Lester? Walters of Elliots Cove. RNR No 10382 DA Does this make sense to you? ernest james
little bob Posted 23 April , 2019 Author Share Posted 23 April , 2019 Thank you Ernest, 1672x and 1559x are their Newfoundland R N R service numbers. Will keep an eye out for the book. My local War Memorial has one Newfoundlander, Willie John Nightingale, remembered on it. Bob
