Remembered Today:

Cyril/Charles Gwynne WEBB

Cyril Gwynne Webb enlisted underage with the 10th Royal West Kent Regiment in August 1915 and went to France with the battalion on 3 May 1916. He was killed, as a Lance Corporal, on 9 October 1916. He enlisted under his own name, as his Service Record still exists and his MIC and medal record show him as Cyril. But SDGW and the CWGC's records (for Thiepval) show him as Charles Gwynne Webb. This was probably a mistake compounded by the IWGC using SDGW data in the 1920s. Would CWGC change this? What evidence would be needed?

The service records are clearly helpful provided that it can be established that they relate to the casualty.  As you have the full service record possibly there would be no need to provide additional supporting evidence such as a memorial card or obituary notice.

Thanks. I've contacted the CWGC to get the ball rolling.

The CWGC has informed that they will amend their website records to show his forename as Cyril.

Hi Mike, I am related to Cyril Webb and trying to get some more information on where how exactly he died in France as we are travelling there. We're you researching him in particular? Would love any info you have.
