T/WO2 9226 Albert E Pickett MM, RE

AC00

Recommended Posts

Hi all, researching T/WO2 9226 Albert E Pickett RE I have found Medal card, MM, and Gazette entry for MM. Albert was also awarded LSGC, having trouble finding the record of this award. I have found the War Diary for the 49th Div Signals West Riding, cannot seem to find the entry, in the diary for MM. If anybody has any further information regarding this soldier or can point me in the the right direction this would be great.

Thanks

Do you have this from FMP?

First Name: A E

Surname: Pickett

Rank:Acting Company Sergeant Major

Service Number:9226

Gallantry Awards: Military Medal

This Level 3 Gallantry Medal was established during the First World War on the 25th March 1916 and introduced in the London Gazette issue 29535, (back dated to 1914) to personnel of the British Army and other services, and personnel of Commonwealth countries, below commissioned rank. It was the other ranks' equivalent to the Military Cross (M.C.), (which was awarded to Commissioned Officers and, rarely, to Warrant Officers, who could also be awarded the M.M.).

The military decoration was awarded to A E Pickett for acts of gallantry and devotion to duty under fire or for individual or associated acts of bravery which were insufficient to merit the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

Gazette Info: Gazette Issue 29864. M.M. His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to award the Military Medal for bravery in the Field.

Gazette Date: 12/12/1916

Gazette Page: 12222

There is only one Pickett on my 1916 RE index. In the WD of 49 Div Sigs Co 23/01/1916.

A/QMS Pickett to be A/CSM. (no serial number or initial shown).

I double checked the WD of the A&QMG 49 Div. The Sappers named in the Routine Orders 31/07/1916 (page 403/649) are in the LG 01/09/1916 number 29731. Those in the R/Os 14/08/1916 (page 446/649) are in the LG 19/09/1916 number 29758 and those named in the R/Os 23/10/1916 p 600/649 are in the LG 08/12/1916 number 29758. Your man is in the LG 12/12/1916 number 29864 but I can not find him in the R/Os. Two men from the Lancashire Fusiliers named in the R/O 29/10/1916 (p 613/649) are in the LG 08/12/1916 number 29854 and one man from the West Yorkshire Regt named in the R/Os 31/10/1916 (p 633/649) is in the LG 05/01/1917 number 29893.

How did you tie him down to 49 Div. Was it the MM Medal Card on FMP.
