Blackblue Posted 18 April , 2019 Share Posted 18 April , 2019 Hello, I wondered if anyone could point me to an Order detailing that a soldier could be issued and wear gallantry medal ribbons before the award was officially gazetted? Most interested in the AIF. I have a man awarded an MC for Jul 17, MC in orders 10 Sep 17, but not gazetted until 1 Jan 18. When could he have put his ribbon up? wmfinch Posted 19 April , 2019 Share Posted 19 April , 2019 Hello Blackblue, First of all, I apologise as I am no expert and cannot point you to the actual order. However, I have read on this forum that once decorated, you were expected to wear the ribbon as an example to others. Some men were reluctant as they thought they would be expected to perform more heroic acts. My own Grandfather was decorated for his part in an action in Nov 1917 and the medal riband award ceremony took place in Feb 1918. He did wear his ribbon for the rest of the war after he received it, but a supplementary question is what happened if you refused to wear it? v/r Wayne
