Guest Posted 8 April , 2019 Share Posted 8 April , 2019 Greetings and salutations. Researching about war art, specifically about the First World War, is one of the things I aspire to do in a more detailed way. Selbstbilnis als Soldat is a 1915 painting by E.L. Kirchner, who served in the German Army, where the artist depicts himself as a soldier. The whole mindset of trauma behind all of the colours and way of expression is really intriguing, and I wish to one day have a deeper understanding of what it all might mean. There is one thing I tried to search for: on the picture, the uniform the artist is wearing is (seemingly) from the 75th Artillery Regiment (Mansfeld), which I would like to know more about. Does anybody know exactly know more about this german regiment?
AOK4 Posted 8 April , 2019 Share Posted 8 April , 2019 Hello, As far as I can understand, he never actually to a front line unit, but remained in an Ersatz (training) unit of Feldartillerie-Regiment 75 in Mansfeld. He was discharged on medical grounds. Jan
