Remembered Today:

Guards Division memoirs sought

A few months ago I requested help finding autobiographies and memoirs relating to the 3rd and 6th Divisions in in the Great War, and forum members came up with quite a few that I had never come across, for which I am most grateful.

I now need your help again if you would be so kind: I am now after memoirs/letters/diaries of men who served in the British Guards Division from August 1915 onwards, [ I am only interested in primary sources, i.e. writings by men who actually fought, not biographies]. So far I have:

Reminiscences of a Grenadier, 1916-1919, E.R.M. Fryer

To Hell and Back with the Guards, Norman D. Cliff

Fifteen Rounds A Minute, the diaries of Major Jeffreys

Have You Forgotten Yet? C.P. Blacker

Letters from the Front, Brian Lawrence

I am sure there are plenty more - can you help?

Thanks, William

Thanks for these Michelle. Now I look on my bookshelves I find that I have copies of (and have read!) The Distant Drum and War Letters to a Wife (which I thought was particularly good).

Suggestions are still welcome.

Thanks for these titles, all of which have been helpful; I find that I have a few of them already on my 'to read' pile. I have just found a second-hand copy of Cloete's A Victorian Son for a tiny sum on Amazon, so have ordered that.

Other suggestions are still welcome.

Is it possible that the Guards' Museum/ archive holds unpublished memoirs?

Great book , although he was killed a few months before the Guards Division was formed .

Hi. I believe some of the Grenadier Guards archives are to be held at the National Army Museum.  Lt. Col. a.f.a.n. Thorne CO of 3rd GG

during 1917 left some of his personnel archives.  Check online for details.

Thanks once again everyone for all these suggestions, which have given me various literary works and new avenues of research to pursue.
