Remembered Today:

Lembet Camp Hospital Salonica Forces

Does anybody have information on the above hospital?  The only information I have for my Grandad Albert Francoise Drawbridge is Army Number 24802 in the AVC Army Veterinary Corps.  He was there in March 1917.  The address was 18th Veterinary Hospital, Lembet Camp, Salonica Forces, Salonica.  I am trying to find out if anybody else might be researching the same hospital or knows where they were stationed before or after.  I also don't know what he did there or why he was there. Thanks

Lembet is in Thessaloniki, (formerly Salonica), and the whole area around the city was full of bases and indeed hospitals for humans as well as veterinary services. There is an official history volume (probably hard to find), of the Veterinary Services. The original print run in 1925 was of 1500 copies so I suspect that only major libraries have any chance of a copy.

There may well be some modern work somewhere on the work of the service, but in would pretty certainly  include everything from qualified specialist staff to officers batmen and probably clerks and cooks.

History of the great war based on official documents. Veterinary services / edited by Major-General Sir L.J. Blenkinsop and J.W. Rainey.

According to https://copac.jisc.ac.uk/search?&author=Blenkinsop&date=1925&title=veterinary+services, there are copies at:

National Library of Scotland, London Library, Edinburgh University, National Library of Wales, Trinity College Dublin, British Library, Cambridge University Library, Glasgow University, Imperial War Museum, Oxford University, Queen's University Belfast, St Andrew's University, Wellcome Library (which is in London).

As Keith suggests, all the copyright deposit libraries plus a few. However, a good public library ought to be able to get an inter-library loan in.

NB also that the Museum of Military Medicine, https://museumofmilitarymedicine.org.uk/, formerly the Army Medical Services Museum, does also cover the work of the Army Veterinary Corps. They too have a library (not on COPAC) and may be willing to do a look-up for you.
