Yes , both are possibilities.

AS would make more sense, but it looks neither the A nor the H in DAH !

Thank you all....AS Active Service makes sense but as pointed out    the A is somewhat ambivilant.

Follow on question...anyone able to identify the photo site?...or way out there,anyone in the photo?

On the transfer to Labour Corp entry H.S. appears in brackets....could that mean Home Service only as opposed to overseas?...makes some sense of it...and Thank You all for helping me forward ..very much appreciated. Just checked some 41 pages of casualty lists to no avail!

Yes, that one does.

I suspect therefore that the other one does as well.

Thanks again everyone...posted earlier but seem to have lost it...long shot but is anyone able to identify where the group photo was taken?  and even longer shot anyone able to identify anyone in the photo?..long shots I know BUT on the naval site quite by accident I found or rather came across my wife's GFather on a serendipitous browse of a warship I had never heard of!
