sutton1987 Posted 2 April , 2019 Share Posted 2 April , 2019 Out of curiousity I am trying to research the lady in the subject who was awarded an Epidermes Medal. This is in original box of issue named "Ministere de la Guerre M,me G.WETTHERED 1919. I have tried WW1 medal rolls as thought she was possibly with French Red Cross and awarded for war service. Have looked 1911 census but nearest I can find is Geraldine Wetthered born 1899. Her father was a Clerk in Holy Orders. Any help would be appreciated Mike
IPT Posted 2 April , 2019 Share Posted 2 April , 2019 I think it may be Florence Grace Wethered. I found this scrambled transcription in Journal officiel de la République française "Mme Wethered (Grae),)nfirnFè::nçoiS; hôpital temporaire 27 a v »" in February 1919. Their first names are in brackets and I think it should be Grace. A Mrs F.G. Wethered is listed in "For Dauntless France" - https://archive.org/details/fordauntlessfran00biny/page/366 There are some records for a Florence Grace Wethered, WRNS. The last page appears to be a note saying that she is serving as a VAD. She has signed it Grace Wethered.
sutton1987 Posted 2 April , 2019 Author Share Posted 2 April , 2019 Many thanks for this. I had looked in For Dauntless France but was using the spelling that was embossed on the medal case ie tt which didn't show up. Will also do another census search for Grace and ammended spelling of surname. Mike
IPT Posted 2 April , 2019 Share Posted 2 April , 2019 I think she was Florence Grace Gandy, born c1878. She married Walter Percival Wethered (1869-1917) in 1896. She appears on a 1922 passenger list, travelling with her brother-in-law, Col. Wethered to New York. Arrival Contact Name C W D Gandy
