Remembered Today:

Map location in 72 Brigade RFA War Diary

Hi,

Attached is a summary of the positions of 72 RFA in September and October 1916.

My great grandad was awarded the Military Medal during this period. Could anyone shed any light on where “Bolton Wood X29 A25”, “IX18 A9.5” and “Lower Wood X18 A95” were/are?

Many thanks.

Missing is the map sheet number which is 57d SE4.  Map and image here:

Lower Wood top right, "Bolton" wood has been mis-transcribed, it is Bottom wood on the bottom edge of the map.

Another way is to use this splendid resource http://www.tmapper.com/.  Enter the details a shown and bingo.  The overlays function gives a trench map overlay, hours of endless fun  Note that both methods don't give a pin point position, note the tab "accuracy".
