Guest Posted 27 March , 2019 Share Posted 27 March , 2019 Please can your members help me to identify this sword found amongst my mothers belongings after she passed away. The mark says Wallace Scott & co, Glasgow. it has a silver scabbard and a leather scabbard. Kind regards.
JMB1943 Posted 27 March , 2019 Share Posted 27 March , 2019 (edited) Hello Elaine, Welcome to the GWF, an expert will be along shortly. I cannot ID it, but may I say how absolutely beautiful it is! The silver (stainless steel?) scabbard is I believe the “dress” scabbard, while the brown leather one was intended for everyday use. I am not a sword aficionado, but do like them, and have not previously seen a silver-colored chape on such a leather scabbard. Do not part with these items carelessly, they appear to be of fine quality and may well have belonged to a family member. Regards, JMB edit: Apology for trying to tell you what to do/ not to do. What I meant was to not sell for a less than fair-value price...... Edited 27 March , 2019 by JMB1943
Rob B Posted 27 March , 2019 Share Posted 27 March , 2019 (edited) I rather think it's a Scottish Regimental Field Officers sword, on the blade it looks like an Edward the seventh cypher. As an ex Scottish Divisional officer and having carried a Broadsword on parade I don't recognise the pattern on the basket/guard. The two scabbards are (metal) for parade and ceremonial use, the leather for field or barrack use. Edited 27 March , 2019 by Rob B
Waggoner Posted 27 March , 2019 Share Posted 27 March , 2019 It looks like the heavy cavalry “honeysuckle” hilt. All the best, Gary

As thought its an original Scottish C.1900's 1857 Pattern Field Officer's Sword
