On 2 Sept 1917 R.N.A.S. pilot William Edward Foster and his observer, Hector Burns, of 2 Wing Aegean took off from Marsh Aerodrome, Mudros, "in response to several enemy bombing attacks on the Mudros base on this day," one of four French-built Henri Farmans H.F. 27's, theirs being No. 9136.  They did not return, coming down in the Aegean Sea

Listed as "captured at Karaboura (listed elsewhere as "Kaobroa Smyrna Gulf"), they "burnt their machine before captive. They are well. Living in Smyrna" according to a telegram 3 October 1917 and at Afion Karahissar 6 December 1917.  They were repatriated in 1918.

I have their UK NA records but am looking for photos of Foster and Burns.  Foster did not have an RAeC certificate so I can not get his photo from their.

I am hoping someone with access to the UK version of Ancestry will look them up for me !  Dare I ask?
