Remembered Today on the Great War Forum: Admiral Herbert Lyon CB RN

 

Rear Admiral Lyon was placed on the retired list in January 1913, but with the outbreak of war, returned as a Captain RNR in command of the yacht  Safa-el-Bahr on 23 August, 1915. 
In 1916 he became the Commodore Commanding the auxiliary patrol based at Malta, which in the last two years of the war averaged not less than 70 vessels. 
He was promoted Admiral on the retired list 1st January 1919 and died at Malta just over two months later.

His son, Lt-Comm Herbert I N Lyon RN, also served and died in the Great War
