Ron Clifton Posted 11 March , 2019 Share Posted 11 March , 2019 (edited) Hello Simon The Cheshire Regiment had four TF battalions, which on mobilisation each formed three "lines", as they were known. The first-line battalions, designated 1/4 etc were for overseas service; the second lines, 2/4 etc were originally for home service only; and the third lines, 3/4 etc were depot and training units at home, to supply the other two. In September 1916 3/5, 3/6 and 3/7 Battalions were absorbed into 3/4, which was redesignated 4th (Reserve) Bn. His number in the 240,000+ suggests that he may originally have been in 3/5 Bn. 613 Company is almost certainly part of the Labour Corps, to which he was probably transferred (after April 1917) after some form of medical downgrading. As you know, absence of a medal roll entry and MIC indicates that he served only in the UK. Ron Edited 11 March , 2019 by Ron Clifton
