tullybrone Posted 8 March , 2019 Share Posted 8 March , 2019 (edited) Hi, This may be the Sladen subject of the court martial. I haven’t looked to see whether his service record has survived on Ancestry or Findmypast. U.K. Court Martial files no longer exist but there is an index in the U.K. National Archives (as well as on Ancestry). Your grandfather’s service file should be available in the U.K. National Archives. http://www.greatwar.co.uk/research/military-records/british-officers-ww1-service-records.htm http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/british-army-officers-after-1913/ Good Luck Edited 8 March , 2019 by tullybrone
SmithToton Posted 9 March , 2019 Author Share Posted 9 March , 2019 Thanks, I have his Officer Records but there is nothing as to his time in Egypt from August 1917 to May 1920 - who he served with, what he was doing and where he was ???? It's strange that there's no reference at all - I have some photo's of his time in Egypt but there's no clue to what he was doing etc.
Admin DavidOwen Posted 9 March , 2019 Admin Share Posted 9 March , 2019 Angela you may be able to locate which regiment / battalion he was in by checking the British Army Lists here https://digital.nls.uk/british-military-lists/archive/100739612 Though I suspect there will be quite a few with his surname! SmithToton Posted 9 March , 2019 Author Share Posted 9 March , 2019 Albert Victor Gray - 11th Rifle Brigade. He was wounded on the 3rd Sept 1916 in Guillemont France. He went for Officer Training at Newton Ferrers in April 1917 and was commissioned in August 1917. He was appointed Assistant Adjutant of a Demob Camp but after that there's nothing until when he returns from Kantara in May/June 1920
