john white Posted 8 March , 2019 Share Posted 8 March , 2019 Dear Members I am enclosing a photograph showing in the forefront Quinn's Post Cemetery and in the rear Pylons and a cable system. The Photo is taken from the Alexander Turnbull Liibrary in New Zealand and dated circa 1918, although I think it may be later. A friend of mine thinks it may be Turkish but I think the cable system was British. I have seen a couple of photographs showing the cable system. Does anybody have any information or photographs on this subject please? Regards Jw
michaeldr Posted 9 March , 2019 Share Posted 9 March , 2019 The double line of cables running across your photograph from left to right could well be part of the IWGC system, as seen also in this picture. This photograph of an unnamed Gallipoli cemetery and was taken sometime in June 1923. It appears in 'Gallipoli Then & Now' by Steve Newman (page 198) The cable way was used to transport blocks of stone uphill over rough terrain
john white Posted 12 March , 2019 Author Share Posted 12 March , 2019 Dear Michael Thanks for your response. Maybe it's Quinn's Post! I have found another photo of Quinn's Post Cemetery showing the Pylons taken from a different angle. Regards John White
