johntaylor Posted 7 March , 2019 Share Posted 7 March , 2019 BBC Radio 4's Book of the Week included an excellent account of the traumatic experiences of German Bauhaus architect Walter Gropius, from the biography by Fiona McCarthy. I didn't know he served in the Great War, and you can listen here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0002zdm John

Steven Broomfield Posted 7 March , 2019 Share Posted 7 March , 2019 I've read a couple of reviews of the book including the current Spectator one. The reviews were OK (the Speccie felt the author hadn't quite 'caught' the subject); I shan't be reading the book (not my cup of tea), but it does look interesting. The Speccie reminds me that Waugh used Gropius as the model for Professor Silenus in Decline and Fall.
