Hi Felix

From the 1915 crew list for Adolf it looks pretty ordinary to me http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14589635

Although there is a prize court hearing from Gibraltar also dated 1915 http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C9479448

The second mate made a wages claim in 1916

Not exactly sure that the Adolf in Gibraltar is the same ship though....

Thanks. Wow. I notice the last entry indicates S.S. Adolf which would be a steamer. When I looked about for prize records I see it is listed as a steamship. Seaborne Trade vol 1. p.61 mentions the ship is a steamer.

So still searching. I have a copy of Richie's book somewhere which I think has  a full listing of types. I mean to be able to back track from the alleged Qship use.

Well the part of being Dutch built steel sailing vessel with the name Stina is correct. Found that. Still need the name change to Adolf and taken as prize by the RN in the North Sea. The Q.ship part is alleged now in another article on the Soleway Lass. Probably hype.

I could be way of beam here but found this in the Medal Rolls on Ancestry - could it have been re-named Polkerris?

Looks like it was?

Confirmed - a different registry number http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C10335558

Got excited for a minute there....

But then again... as it was sunk in 1918 I guess not?

Built 1889 and 943tons. Not the same. I wager this is the steamer Adolf mention in that Gibraltar prize court link

The target is a schooner  built 1902 and 160tons. Previous name Stina. Then Adolf in 1905 and captured. At 160tons probably one of those many Ger. ships taken in 1914 in harbour or at sea not having wireless. Something this small may not have a Gazette listing for prizes.  I am writing those folks in the OP an email to see if they can provide more info. I doubt they will respond.

Well thanks. Stopped me from sending that email. Interesting about the Q.ship part if true. I see it is backtracked in other articles. Some of the later history sounds far fetched.(the WW2 German Navy stuff) Outside the content of the forum.

Thanks to all
