Debbie in B.C. Posted 26 January , 2005 Share Posted 26 January , 2005 Good Morning all, I just found my Grandfather - Charles Coyle on the medal card list at Documents online. He is listed as a Private, and has 2 Regiment numbers - 3721, and 325827. Both with the same regiment though - Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Can someone tell me why he might have 2 numbers? Also, I would be thrilled if anyone could tell me more about his service?

Debbie in B.C. Posted 26 January , 2005 Author Share Posted 26 January , 2005 Debbie the topic discussed in these threads might help you. Renumbering Regards James Brown Thank You James! So, do I understand it correctly - By having the 2 numbers, it means that he would have enlisted with the territorial force in 1914, and then been renumbered in 1917. That proves to be an excellent indicator of when a soldier enlisted - thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
Paul Reed Posted 26 January , 2005 Share Posted 26 January , 2005 His original TF number - 3721 - is quite high and may indicate he actually enlisted in 1915.
