Pte Arthur Thomas Willoughby, Essex & Wilts Regts

Recommended Posts

I picked up a family name pair, to Arthur Thomas Willoughby, impressed to 55605 PTE. A. T. WILLOUGHBY. ESSEX R. His MIC confirms the unit and also service as 40079 WILTS REGT. The medal roll gives his full names (Arthur Thomas Willoughby) and adds he was discharged 4.3.1919. No papers seem to have survived and there are at least three possible candidates with these names on BMD, census, etc. Can anyone help with other ideas on narrowing down this man's civilian identity?

There were only 3 men with this name born.

They were

1..Arthur Thomas Willoughby born 1880 at Shoreditch

2. Arthur Thomas Willoughby born 1884 at Redruth

3.Arthur Thomas Willoughby born 1886 at Islington

So it is more than likely that your Arthur was born in London given the Regiment.

At least that narrows it down to 2.

Try looking for Absent Voters Lists for London. A few of them are on-line
