I have a pair of shoulder titles - 1/AMB. Can’t remember where I purchased them...either Canada or the UK. Can anyone tell me which ambulance unit wore these?

All the best,

Gary

Collecting Metal Shoulder Titles - Westlake  suggests they were unofficial, privately made titles for 1st Armoured Motor Battery, M.G.C.

That is correct 1st Armoured Motor Battery. Unusual and hard to find titles.

Very lucky to have  a pair.

Mark,

Thank you. Please educate me, What is/was an armoured motor battery? Motor machine guns?

There are threads in the forum about them. I think this page of LLT should help:

RM,

Thank you for the link.

For all,

Any suggestion of what they might be worth? While I am not planning to sell, it would be useful information to have.

All the best,

Gary

I have also googled the on-line sales lists and auctions...and have determined the approximate value of these titles. Apparently the 1st AMB served in East Africa and Mesopotamia? Very interesting!

My thanks to all of you for your input!

All the best,

Gart

And to add to the confusion there was also a 1st AMB (1 Armoured Motor Brigade (or Battery?)) in India on the North West Frontier during the Third Afghan War in 1919. In the Thal/Kurram/Parachinar area.

As a follow-up, I was pleased to learn this was an ASC unit!

This is an interesting thread,

Which one was the ASC unit Gary, the NW Frontier one?

Did they continue to wear ASC badges or AMB ones?

I've never seen a photo of the AMB cap badge being worn, have you?
