James A Pratt III Posted 1 March , 2019 Share Posted 1 March , 2019 These are the days when RFC aircraft spotted for RMA 15 inch howitzers according to the RFC Communiques RFC Communiques 1915-1916 6 Aug 1916 "The railroad Line at Miraumont was much damaged by 15-inch howitzer" 25 Sep 16 "Obtained direct hits on Miraumont church with a 15 inch howitzer" 26 Oct 16 A mill on the river Ancre was knocked about by a 15-inch howitzer battery" 3 Nov 16 "A mill on the river Ancre and Baillscourt farm were practically destroyed by a 15 inch howitzer (RMA) by Capt Mackay & 2lt Buckeridge 4 Sqn" 4 Dec 16 "The 1st RMA 15-inch howitzer destroyed the only occupied emplacement in a hostile battery." RFC Communiques 1917-1918 14 may 17 "5th Brigade" "Cross observation was given by 2 balloons 3 shoots by the 5th RMA all of which were successfull." 31 may 17 "Lt Harvey and 2Lt Paton of 53 sqn observing for no 2 and 5 RMA (15-inch howitzers) obtained 10 direct hits out of 23 rounds fired." 24 jun 17 "2Lt kerr and Lt Elstob No 53 Sqn observing for no 2 and 5 RMA (15-inch howitzers) carried out a destructive shoot on ten breler obtaining 19 oks one shell observed to completely wreck 5 homes." James A Pratt III Posted 1 March , 2019 Author Share Posted 1 March , 2019 22 jul 17 "lts jones and mcmillan No 13 sqn ranged 10th RMA on a hostile battery where one pit was damaged and an explosion caused." 23 Jul "Balloon observation" "Several houses were demolished in a shoot of 22 rounds with a 15' howitzer" 25 jul 17 "Lt Holmes and Lt Elstob No 53 Sqn observed for no 2 and 5 RMA (15-in howitzer) which obtained 20 oks on Korentj causing a number of fires and explosions and completely destroying many huts." 13 Aug Lt Rogers "ranged the third RMA on to another hostile battery where a gun pit was destroyed." 29 oct 17 2lt Whitehead No 5 detached flight with the 5th RMA (15-inch howitzer) destroyed a strongpoint' 5 dec :1st RMA obtained a direct hit ona bridge on to which had been ranged by Lt Martin-Smith and Lt Smith no 59 sqn" I hope this is of some use or interest Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
