The medals from top to bottom are the Queen's South Africa Medal, the King's South Africa Medal, the Medaille Militaire and the Medaille Commemorative du Maroc (1909). The last was awarded for service in the Second Franco-Morrocan War and would normally have one or more campaign clasps. Pete.

Im getting confused with this one

His service number is too high for the Boer War in the Coldstream Gds and his papers dont show he went to SA  - as dont his Scots Gds papers

perhaps there may be some embellishment in his service prior to ww1 unless there are some other service papers and these are wrong ?  The names of parents match but place of birth is on different continents, clearly if the same man then he has lied upon enlistment

scots papers say he is 15 in 1901 and joined as a boy soldier with no previous military service stated - he could hardly say he had 3 years service and a tour of South Africa under his belt

this is always the problem when people change (for what ever reason) their age etc etc and we pick through the pieces 100 yrs plus later

I think you may need to change the title of the thread once you have sorted the ribbons out as we have gone down amother path
