cheeseman64 Posted 21 February , 2019 Share Posted 21 February , 2019 I've recently started a small but growing collection of Great War cartridge cases and trench art, mostly Canadian but some British too. Joined here awhile ago and gaining a lot from what I've read. Just acquired this Naval 1911 marked case (18 Pr?) and haven't been able to identify a couple of the markings. Any help would be appreciated. Specifically looking just above '1911' at the stylised 'X' as well as the 'T'. Any ideas on these? Also, just about the Royal Laboratories 'RL' stamp there is a small "OK" stamp - is that as simple as it appears? An inspection approval stamp? peregrinvs Posted 21 February , 2019 Share Posted 21 February , 2019 We need some dimensions, but it may be from the 12 Pounder family. (8cwt or 12cwt)
cheeseman64 Posted 21 February , 2019 Author Share Posted 21 February , 2019 The rim at the base is 10.3 cm diameter, with the total length 28.6 cm. As shown in this photo, the mouth has been flared out so I can't accurately estimate the diameter at the mouth.
