Trenches to see in Somme area

Whatever the disc is it seems to be embedded into the body of the shell. I agree it might be an angle grinder disc which, having been used to cut through the driving band, has become embedded in the shell body. Looking at both photos it appears to be dark on one side, and have printing on the other - very much like an angle grinder disc.

Looks like an angle grinder disc to me.

I think anyone looking for trench remains on the western front has to consider the extra drive to Massiges in the Champagne. I'd also recommend the summit of Hartmannzwillerkopf. Both of these are in states of originality unlike anywhere I can think of in the British sectors.

Ah, that would make sense, of course. Removing driving bands to the tune of Big Bang Boogie!
