sgf Posted 19 February , 2019 Share Posted 19 February , 2019 I wonder whether anyone could tell me the whereabouts of the 10th Battalion Kings Royal Rifle Corps in early June 1916. My interest relates to my great uncle George Follows R711 who was killed in action on 5 June 1916 and is now buried at Potijze Burial Ground - where was his Battalion and what were they involved in? I'm a complete novice at military research and don't really know where to start, how might I find out where he was between his embarkation with the BEF on 21 June 1915 and his death? kind regards - Simon

MBrockway Posted 20 February , 2019 Share Posted 20 February , 2019 Welcome to the Rifles Family here on the Forum Simon! Not many clues for you I'm afraid ... Soldiers Died in the Great War confirms he was killed in action on 05 Jun 1916 despite the war diary saying no casualties. This may only refer to the Relief being casualty free of course. Casualties from the shelling 2-4 June may not have been reported until after midnight on 4/5 Jun, so that is a possibility. 59 Brigade war diary mentions 2 killed, 5 wounded on 4th June and 1 killed, 7 wounded on 5th June, but no details on their battalions. The 20th (Light) Division HQ A&Q diary gives casualties for the whole division as follows .... ... and these figures for 10/KRRC ... Here are the 59 Bde daily Intelligence Summaries for 4-6 June 1916 ... Again, no real clues for you. For info, SDGW also states born Brown Hill's, Walsall, enlisted Nuneaton, resided Atherstone.
