zippy.72 Posted 19 February , 2019 Share Posted 19 February , 2019 I am trying to work out the location of the 6th Cheshires in Feb 1918, particularly from 19th to 22nd. The war diary states they were in the line near Gouzeaucourt but I cannot find trench maps for this particular period. I am assuming that the Germans had withdrawn to the Hindenburg Line at this point and were readying for the Spring offensive. I would like to know as I am trying to work out where Pte 51096 JH Brown of A Coy 6th Cheshires was wounded.

Don Regiano Posted 19 February , 2019 Share Posted 19 February , 2019 I don't suppose it's the same person but in his book on the 6th Cheshires, John Hartley refers to a Joseph Brown who died of wounds at a CCS at Tincourt on 18 February. Apparently he had been badly wounded in an air raid on 16 February when the battalion was Dessart Camp.

The subway entrance quoted by Edward was east of Goueazeaucourt and I noticed, but didn't check exact coverage, that the NLS has a number of 1918 maps at the 1:20,000 scale.
